Established in 1975,
MAAP, Inc. (formerly the Mexican American Alcoholism Program) is one of the
largest, multi-ethnic, client-based non-profit organizations in
Northern
California. MAAP was founded as a Latino
organization and continues to provide extensive services (available in Spanish and English) to
the Latino community.
One of MAAP's strongest
assets is its ability to provide services in a culturally appropriate way to the
Latino community. Serving the community from various sites and venues,
MAAP is fortunate to have a multicultural staff that represents the various
ethnicities found in the Sacramento community. Our goal is to effectively address
community social problems such as alcohol and chemical dependency, education,
housing, HIV/AIDS, and the lack of affordable, quality health
care.
MAAP provides
direct services to over 3,000 people per month, including babies, adolescents,
young adults, adults, and seniors.
Through our extensive outreach and education efforts, such as Binational
Health Week which is a partnership with the Consulate of Mexico, we carry out
over 50,000 encounters annually.
MAAP partnerships
in the community include the Sacramento City Unified, Grant Joint Union and Elk
Grove School Districts; The Gardens; Harm Reduction
Services; CARES;
CDCW; The Effort,
The Gifted Healing
Center; Breaking Barriers;
Sacramento Black Alcoholism Program; County and City of Sacramento; The Salvation Army; Mercy; Kaiser Permanente; Sutter Health; U.C. Davis Health System; Sacramento
Community Clinic Consortium; C.S.U. Sacramento and many
others.
